Samsung at the Oscars February 2014

A mosaic wall of Samsung products—from Smart TVs to smartphones to tablets—will be a centerpiece of the Architectural Digest Greenroom at the Academy Awards®. The Samsung display wall, conceived by AD100 architect David Rockwell, the creator of this year’s Greenroom, represents 86 years of Oscars and will feature 86 images from iconic, socially conscious films. The images will be co-curated by Rockwell and Academy Award-winning actress Susan Sarandon.

“Samsung is thrilled to provide the highest quality displays at the movie industry’s biggest night for 5 years running,” said Peggy Ang, Vice President of Marketing Communications at Samsung Electronics America. “Through a digital wall display consisting of our award-winning TVs and mobile devices, Samsung aims to create a breathtaking experience for presenters and nominees and deliver inspirational content from classics in the best picture quality possible.”

The wall will encompass 86 Samsung devices, including 10 TVs, 21 tablets, and 55 smartphones, ranging in size from five inches to 60 inches to create a full 17.5 x 8.5-foot wall.  A collection of Samsung TVs will work in tandem with Samsung’s new Galaxy Note®Pro and Galaxy Tab® Pro 10.1, and the Galaxy S® 4 and Galaxy Note® 3. All of these devices will be synced by specially designed software created by the LAB at Rockwell Group and will allow the digital art installation to morph between a montage of images and a singular image. Los Angeles-based SenovvA, Inc. is providing A/V integration services for the wall

“We created the digital wall to transform familiar electronic devices into a site-specific art installation that celebrates the 86-year-long history of the Oscars,” said David Rockwell. “The devices are mounted on a bronze mesh screen wall, combining technology and craftsmanship in a unique way.”

Additionally, presenters will be able to take “selfies” from the Samsung Twitter Mirror, using the new Galaxy Note® Pro during the show. The images will be tweeted out from @TheAcademy Twitter handle and will include the official #ArchDigestGreenroom hashtag.
